French police struggled to curtail Algeria football fans on Sunday after their win over Nigeria at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, in Egypt.
After Algeria scored the winning goal at the final minute, thousands of fans stormed the streets.
Marseille, where thousands of Algeria fans watched the match on the Boulevard de la Canebière, was worst hit.
According to the police, 282 people were arrested between Sunday night and Monday morning.
Interior Minister, Christophe Castaner reacted to the development on Monday.
He hailed the police and firemen for their “speedy reaction and professionalism which contained the violence and to the perpetrators” being apprehended.
